Robert's 30th Birthday

Bryson was so excited about Robert's birthday this year. He told everybody at school about it and also told me that he wanted to get him a birthday cake. After work I took him to Publix to let him pick it out. They had so many yummy looking cakes so it took Bryson forever to make up his mind. He finally chose a red velvet cake. He made Robert a card at school but I wanted to help him make one too. We were watching Will that night for Robbie and Martha so we started making it right when we got home. I asked Bryson what kind of card he wanted to make and he said "I want to roll the trees again like we did in Auburn". So that's what we did! It turned out so cute! I called Robert just before I knew he would be home so I could make sure I had enough time to light the candles on the cake for him so he would be surprised when he got home! Both the boys helped me sing Happy Birthday and he loved the cake Bryson picked out! It was a nice night of relaxing and playing with both of the boys.

Robert's Surprise 30th Birthday Party!

Last year for my 30th birthday, Robert threw me a surprise party. It was so much fun and I was so surprised! I knew that I wanted to do the same thing for him; but I'm terrible at surprises. I decided to do an 80's themed party. I figured if he knew about a party, maybe at least he wouldn't know it was a themed party, and who doesn't love the 80's! It seemed like a very fitting theme since he was born in the 80's and since 30 is a pretty big milestone birthday. I love planning parties and thanks to Pinterest, they are so easy! There are a ton of ideas on there. I pinned so many things and took a lot of notes. The hardest part about planning the whole thing was where to put all the stuff I bought. Thankfully I had a lot of people willing to help me keep it a secret. I had stuff hidden at Lisa's, Amy's, Martha's, Joanna's, and my parents house! My next issue was how to prepare all the food without him knowing about it. Thankfully again so many people were willing to help by making or bringing stuff. Setting up for the party without him knowing was also hard. My friend Joanna helped with this. She "invited me to go shopping with her" the night before the party. I told Robert that's what I was doing and then headed to Lisa's. She was such a big help with all of the party planning and setting up. I got as much as I could get done that night and headed home. He didn't seem suspicious thank goodness! The day of the party was the nerve racking. I needed him out of the house for most of the day so I could head back to Lisa's, finish setting up, buy anything that I had forgotten and get dressed. Steven offered to help with this and set up a Facebook event for the guys to play golf. I get back from running some errands that morning with party supplies in the car and Robert says "I'm going to take the new car because my golf clubs won't fit in the Civic." I about died! I couldn't let him take that car with all the party stuff in it. Thankfully right as he was getting ready to walk out the door Paul pulled up to take him to play golf. I was a nervous wreck! The guys stayed away all day so I didn't have to come up with an excuse as to why I was gone all day. Robert thought we were going to Amy's for dinner then going out with our friends after that. I texted him a little bit before the party and told him that Lisa wanted to show me a wedding venue so I would just meet him there. I talked to Steven shortly after that and he reassured me that Robert still had no idea! We were all ready and waiting for him outside Lisa's house when he pulled up. He was so surprised! I was so excited that I had pulled it off! We all had an amazing time. I tried to keep the entire party 80's themed from the decorations, to the food. Of course Amy made another awesome cake with PacMan and a Rubik's cube and Lisa made a giant Rubik's cube for our photo booth props and a giant PacMan board for our photo booth. I even bought a ton of 80's candy and party favors for everybody. I was so worried about Robert's 80's outfit. It was so hard to find something without him. At first I wanted to do Miami Vice but I had a hard time finding pants and shoes to fit the part. I found an awesome Kelly Kapowski shirt at Target, a light tan blazer at the Thrift Store, and some faded Jorts (jean shorts) at the Thrift Store. I even ordered an IPhone case that looked like an old 80's phone for him to carry around. It looked perfect! It was so great to get together with our friends to celebrate Robert's 30th birthday. Now I can't wait to plan our next party! Here are some pictures. There are a ton but too awesome not to share!
