Daddy's 65th Birthday

It's so hard to believe that my dad is 65! For his birthday, My Aunt Linda had the idea to throw him a surprise party. There are several out of town family members that he talks about a lot so I wanted to invite them. A few of them were able to come, but not as many as I had hoped. We really had no idea how many people were coming, so we planned enough food for everybody. Needless to say we had leftovers. Everything turned out great! We chose a baby picture to put on his birthday cake and my Aunt chose the same one for the invitation. We decided to have it at our church since it is big enough for everybody and we didn't have to worry about cleaning up! Since we knew he would see the cars, we decided to give everybody a balloon and wait for him outside as he pulled up. He was so surprised. It was a great day celebrating my dad.

Firetruck Day!

October was fire safety month at our school. We talked to the kids about what to do in case there is a fire and also what to do if you are on fire. We discussed ways to prevent fires as well. While the kids loved to talk about fires and firemen, they really love talking about fire trucks. We have a fire station right by the school so sometimes when the kids are on the playground, they get to see a firetruck heading to an emergency. The kids all stop what they are doing and run to the fence to watch the firetruck drive down the road. It was a real treat for the kids when the local fire department wanted to come visit with our school and talk to the kids about fire safety. They were very interested in listening to what the firemen had to say and loved it when he put on his full fire gear. Of course the best part of the day was getting to see the firetruck. I am thankful that I work at the school Bryson attends so I am able to experience all of this stuff with him. He had a blast and so did all the other kids.

Fall Decorations

I love Fall, and I love decorating for Fall, not only at home, but at school too. Bryson was so excited when we pulled out the scarecrow, candy corn and all the pumpkins. He loved the spiders and ghosts and all the things that were "spooky"; but only the decorations at our house. For some reason he was terrified of other peoples decorations, especially Lisa's. We had to start covering his head with a blanket to take him into her house. He kept saying "I don't want to go to Lisa's house because she has goblins". It was cute, funny and sad all at the same time. I will admit though, Lisa's decorations are a little scary, but they are pretty awesome. In our house we like to just put up pretty fall colors inside our house but more and more people are decorating the outside of their house. We have a house in Helena that has a light show. They do the same thing for Christmas but it was so cute for Halloween. You pull up to their house and tune your radio to their station and watch the lights dance and sing to the music on the radio. I think we could have sat their all night, but there were a ton of people waiting behind us to get a closer look. I think we may go a few times during Christmas since Bryson liked it so much. There was a house on our street that had blow up ghosts, zombies, and witches that Bryson loved. He made me drive by it everyday on the way home. He's so sad that they put their decorations up. Hopefully everybody will get their Christmas decorations up soon so he can enjoy those.
At school, I had so much fun making a haunted house bulletin board with my kids and kinds of fun art work. We just started with our Thanksgiving art too! We did football playing turkeys in honor of the Iron Bowl later this month, hand print Mayflowers, corn made from painting with Lego's and of course more turkeys. I love having my classroom decorated for the season. It's sad when that season is over and its time to take all the work down. Thankfully it's almost Christmas so a ton more artwork and decorations will be going up!

Fall Fair

A few years ago, the Alabama State Fair got moved to the Oak Mountain Amphitheater. I had never thought about going to the fair when it was on the other side of town, but Oak Mountain is so close to us there was no reason not to go. Bryson is finally old enough to enjoy things like that and since he had so much fun at Six Flags, we knew he would love this. He loved all the lights and sounds and there was so much that he wanted to do. Sadly, he's still not tall enough for some things. He loved the carousel and playing all the games for prizes. He also got to ride on a little train, a motorcycle and some cars. He had a blast! I love watching him scream and laugh while having so much fun. I can't wait until the fair comes back so we can take him again. Hopefully next time he will be tall enough to do a few more things.
